so i figured i'd get on here and blog a bit. first of all happy holidays, whatever ones you celebrate. if you dont celebrate anything, happy holidays anyway..because im going to enjoy mine, and even if its just another day for you, I hope they are happy.
anyway, here is something really interesting i learned the other day, did you know that the "under god" portion of the pledge wasn't in the original? it wasn't put in until the 50s when we wanted to distance ourselves from the cimmunist states.
this has changed my mind about the deal. you see, im for religous acceptance and equality, whatever faith you have, i am happy for you, because to believe in anything is special. so with the whole pledge thing i alway thought "thats how it was made, its just two words, if you dont like them, dont say them.....but now that i've found it isnt part of the original, i say, take them back out, and preserve the original integrity.
i especially think its silly that it was put in to distance ourselves from communism. just like people are made to believe that socialism is evil nowadays for some reason. whats so bad about people deisring to share and take care of each other. now i understand that communism isnt good because of the dictatorship and force portion, but socialism is the public wishing to provide for the public...and i think thats wonderful
anyway, thats another point entirely, wow look, i've got some thoughts actually proceeding into a full-fledged blogg....lol
so you may be wondering, what do i believe in? not that i think it matters so much in comparision to what i write, i'll tell you the basics.
i believe in a higher power, i used to only believe in one god, but now, odly...after studying the bible more, i think there may be a possiblity for there being more than one...not that i think that really matters.
i do believe in an afterlife of some sort, though of what kind, i do not know...my desire for the afterlife is to learn and to watch the universe grow...can you imagine watching the progression of life...wow...
i do not believe you have to accept anyone as a "savior" or "prophet" or whatever to be admitted into the afterlife, i believe you have to life a generally good life and to try to do the right things to get "there"
i also believe in reincarnation, i believe it is a choice whether to be reincarnated or not, and i think that i have been around many many lifetimes in the past, though i think this will be my last round before retiring to the afterlife..lol
i do not believe that whatever supreme being is around is omnipresent (knows all things..etc etc) why...just read anything relating to any god...even in gen1 or gen 2 of the bible. if god knew everything, then why would he have to search to find answers and such?
anyway, i believe in evolution, though not neccesarily the way darwin had it, and not everyone who is an evolutionist is a darwinist..for those of you who believe so...
i believe in a supreme being largely because i believe in evolution. first of all, something had to start life...because i do not think that random chemicals "pop" and life happens...also, if darwin were correct then the massive amounts of information in our genes would be impossible as natural selection erradicated genes and through genetic history we have gained more and more genetic information, as have other life forms...where does this genetic information come from? it has to come from somewhere...and thus i believe in a higher power
so what am i? i used to say a christian...then a non-traditional christian...then a monotheist....but now? i have no idea what to call myself. i can't say im a christian because althought i certainly believe that jesus was a person, i do not know if he was the son of god or not, and as with many other religions, i do not believe that saying someone is your "savior" no matter the religion or thier "miracles" is how you get into heaven. i cant consider myself a monotheist anymore because i now believe that there is an option for additional gods.
those of you who are christians, might now not want to read my posts anymore, and thats fine, you decide what goes into you mind, and it is wonderful that we have that choice to make. however, i hope you do still desire to read what i have to say.
also, you might find it interesting that i developed many of my spiritual thoughts based on what i've read, largely, in the bible. i have also read some other texts, though not nearly as in depth.
however, understand as well, no matter what religion you are, i do not seek to change your belief, i truly appreciate that you have faith, it is a wondrous and powerful thing. but also, i warn you to understand that blind faith can be a very dangerous thing should it be abused, so follow your heart, mind and conscience when acting on matters of faith, if you believe in whatever power you do, they will speak toyou there.
